About
The artist
Formed in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1993 by sisters Carla Gillis (guitar/vocals) and Lynette Gillis (drums) alongside Amanda Braden (guitar/vocals) and Nina Martin (later Catriona Sturton, bass), Plumtree were an indispensable force in Canada's 1990s indie-rock and riot grrrl renaissance. Blending infectious power-pop hooks with fuzzy punk grit across three celebrated albums—Mass Teen Faint (1995), Predicts the Future (1997), and This Day Won't Last at All (2000)—the band earned widespread underground devotion. Their 1998 single Scott Pilgrim became one of pop culture's most famous musical muses when cartoonist Bryan Lee O'Malley named his iconic comic book hero and graphic novel series after the track.
