The artist
Sister Ray is the project of Edmonton-born, Sturgeon County-raised songwriter Ella Coyes, now based in Toronto. Coyes' first album, Communion, was longlisted for the 2022 Polaris Music Prize, and the follow-up EP Teeth expanded the project's intimate alternative-folk language. The 2025 album Believer was recorded in Brooklyn with producer Jon Nellen and guests including Marc Ribot, Paul Spring, and Isaiah Barr; current releases include Chewing On The Rind, Believer, and the 2026 single Planet News.
