The Jazz Enthusiast is the recording name of Halifax singer-songwriter Michael Butz. Butz began releasing under the name in 2019 after discovering Jacob Collier's music and developing a taste for subtle jazz influence across different genres. His work moves through blues, rock, country and singer-songwriter traditions, with expressive guitar, meaningful lyrics and a focus on live performance. The 2024 album Sweater Weather 3: Cutting Ties was nominated for Blues Recording of the Year at the 2025 Music Nova Scotia Awards, and a June 2026 single, Where the Heartache Hides, keeps the project active.
