The Eyeopener is Toronto Metropolitan University’s independent student newspaper in Toronto. Founded in 1967, it is owned and operated by Rye-Eye Publishing Inc., a nonprofit corporation owned by TMU students, and describes its purpose as providing a voice for students. It publishes in print and online across news, features, arts and culture, communities, sports, business and technology, satire, opinion and multimedia. Its current music editorial includes a March 3, 2026 feature on TMU alumna Naomi Cowan’s first JUNO nomination, debut album Welcome to Paradise, reggae career, family ties to the Jamaican music industry and the genre’s Toronto, Canadian and Jamaican context. The Arts & Culture section continued publishing through April, while the homepage carried current reporting through July 2026. The official pitch guide accepts unpaid contributor story pitches at any time, but frames them around events, initiatives, experiences and issues in and around the TMU campus. The Arts & Culture role inbox and general event-tip invitation therefore do not establish an exclusion-free route for artists or organizations to pitch music releases, so no current artist music-submission service is represented.
