The Fulcrum is the University of Ottawa’s independent English-language student newspaper, with current Ottawa festival coverage and album reviews.
The Fulcrum is the University of Ottawa’s independent English-language student newspaper in Ottawa. Established in 1942, it has been owned and operated since 2005 by the Fulcrum Publishing Society, an Ontario-registered nonprofit corporation governed by its own board. Its stated mission is to promote the wellbeing of the University of Ottawa community through accessible, independent information from on and off campus. It publishes news, arts, features, sports, opinion and other student journalism in print and online. A July 22, 2026 Bluesfest feature reports on emerging Ottawa and Canadian performers beyond the festival headliners, including Nayana, Reuben and the Dark with the Blood Tribe’s Bullhorn Singers, and Angine de Poitrine. Current music editorial also includes an April review of Ottawa and University of Ottawa alumnus Leif Vollebekk’s album Revelation and a March review of Bruno Mars’s The Romantic. The current volunteer page accepts contributors through an intake form, distributes newsroom assignments and welcomes their own article ideas through editorial inboxes. That contributor workflow does not establish an exclusion-free route for artists or organizations to pitch music releases, so no current artist music-submission service is represented. Named staff contacts, role inboxes, intake forms, phone numbers and street-address details are excluded.
