The Gateway

The Gateway is the University of Alberta’s independent nonprofit student media outlet, with current Edmonton festival reporting, artist interviews and album reviews.

The Gateway is the University of Alberta’s official student media outlet in Edmonton. Founded in 1910, it is published by the Gateway Student Journalism Society, a student-run, autonomous, apolitical nonprofit organization governed under Alberta’s Societies Act. It publishes online throughout the calendar year and focuses mainly, though not exclusively, on issues affecting students. Its current Arts & Culture reporting includes a July 16, 2026 interview with Montréal duo Gus Englehorn about The Broken Balladeer, its Edmonton performance, songwriting, production, instruments and storytelling. July coverage also includes Edmonton’s Neon Skies festival, interviews with Canadian musicians, album reviews, concert reporting and Alberta festival features. The current volunteer page says its staff and content team are University of Alberta students, invites U of A students to take newsroom assignments or pitch their own ideas, requires those ideas to be relevant to the university and its students, and rejects unsolicited finished articles. That contributor process does not establish an exclusion-free route for artists or organizations to pitch music releases, so no current artist music-submission service is represented. Named staff and personal contacts, role inboxes, volunteer forms, phone numbers and street-address details are excluded.
