The Manitoban is the University of Manitoba’s independent student newspaper in Winnipeg, with current original reporting on local and Canadian artists, albums and concerts.

The Manitoban is the official student newspaper of the University of Manitoba and an independent democratic student organization in Winnipeg. It publishes weekly during regular classes, monthly in summer and continuously online. The site carried current general reporting through July 2026. Its Arts & Culture desk provides sustained original music journalism inside the 180-day activity window, including March interviews with Winnipeg post-punk band Hut Hut and local indie-folk and garage-rock musician Adam Yarish, February coverage of Canadian blues singer Samantha Martin and the Canadian Jazz Summit, and April features on Canadian roots-rock and Winnipeg album releases. Its mandate centres issues important to University of Manitoba students while extending to the wider province and society; it also serves as a journalism training ground open to student participation. The official Contact page separately invites anyone with a story to use a confidential and secure first-party News Tips form. That form asks only for a news tip as a required field and states no fee, eligibility restriction or coverage guarantee, so MusicList represents it as a direct free route with editorial discretion. The volunteer form and editor contacts are participation routes and are not represented as artist routes. Named staff, role inboxes, phone numbers and street-address details are excluded.
