The McGill Daily is McGill University’s independent student-run newspaper, with current original reporting on Montreal musicians, festivals and live performance.
The McGill Daily is an independent, entirely student-run newspaper at McGill University in Montreal and is published by the autonomous nonprofit Daily Publications Society. Founded in 1911, it publishes online and describes a typical academic-year schedule of weekly print issues, with no summer print edition. The site carried current general reporting through July 2026 and original music editorial inside the 180-day activity window. A June 28 feature previews three McGill-connected sets at the 2026 Montreal International Jazz Festival, situating student, faculty and local musicians within Montreal’s jazz community. A February feature interviews the musical director of a Montreal orchestra about its live performance of The Princess Bride score. The Culture section expressly covers music, local exhibitions, up-and-coming artist interviews and overlooked artists and perspectives. The outlet serves McGill students and Montreal communities and prioritizes marginalized voices through an anti-oppressive editorial approach. Its contributor page invites people to join editorial meetings and produce journalism with section editors; the Culture role inbox appears only within that contributor workflow, alongside stale 2022–23 group labels. MusicList therefore does not represent or credit it as a current direct route for artists or organizations to pitch music coverage. A reference to weekly CKUT segments on the About page was not supported by current 2026 program evidence and receives no radio-program credit. Named staff, role inboxes, contributor groups, phone numbers and street-address details are excluded.
