The Phoenix News is the editorially independent student newspaper of the University of British Columbia Okanagan in Kelowna. Its official About page identifies it as the Okanagan’s student newspaper since 1989, the official students’ free press of UBC Okanagan and independent from the institution and student governments. The outlet publishes online and released a current print issue dated April 14, 2026. Its site carried current reporting through May 2026 and current original music editorial inside the 180-day activity window. An April article examines K-pop’s musical identity, performance culture, vocal and dance training, pop and hip-hop influences, and the UBCO K-pop Dance Team. A February feature interviews UBCO’s competitive a cappella group about its repertoire, musical direction, rehearsals and performances. The current first-party Phoenix Newsletter archive published through April 2026, and dated issues announce new episodes of The Phoenix Files on the outlet’s YouTube channel and Spotify podcast, supporting current newsletter, podcast and video-editorial formats. The separate Flame page says its first issue is still coming soon, so it receives no current format credit. The About page’s general invitation to submit material and the linked Volunteer Submissions form belong to a student newsroom-contributor workflow. An older 2024 article routes student submissions to an address now labelled for advertising, while the current site exposes staff, editorial and advertising contacts without designating any as an artist, release or organization music-submission route. The public submission policy is therefore not stated and no contact is published. Named staff, all inboxes, the volunteer form’s private fields, phone numbers and street-address details are excluded.
