The Reflector is Mount Royal University’s independent Calgary student newspaper, with current original local-music features and album reviews, print and online editions, and a direct no-fee general written-submission route.
The Reflector is the independent student newspaper of Mount Royal University in Calgary. Its official About page describes an editorially autonomous and financially independent publication serving as the voice of Mount Royal students, published fortnightly during the September-to-April academic year and open to newsworthy contributions from students and community members. The current official site remained active through July 3, 2026. Current original music editorial includes a reported feature on Calgary alt-pop band SHYFRiEND, Sled Island, local venues and the band’s Stampede debut, plus July and May album reviews covering pop and country releases. The print archive documents 13 issues in the 2025–26 academic year through April 2, 2026, while the live site continues with online Arts, Features and Web Exclusives during the summer. The official Submissions page explicitly designates thereflector@thereflector.ca for submissions and letters to the editor of no more than 500 words, typed and double-spaced, with the writer’s name and telephone number; unsigned letters are not published, and the outlet preserves discretion to edit or decline material. No fee or coverage guarantee is stated. MusicList therefore presents this as a direct no-fee general written-submission route, not as a music-desk, artist-release or guaranteed-coverage service. Only the designated publication role inbox is retained. The separate Publishing Editor volunteer inbox, named staff, phone and fax numbers, street and postal details, advertising contacts, comment fields and the legacy FeedBurner email-subscription form are excluded. The legacy subscription page does not establish a current editorial newsletter, and the Get Involved page says only that multimedia is being expanded, so no podcast, newsletter or video floor credit is awarded.
