The Runner is KPU’s student-owned Surrey newspaper, with current year-round print and online journalism, music-industry opinion, community coverage, an editorial newsletter and a direct no-fee editor-mediated written-pitch route.
The Runner is Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s student-owned and student-operated newspaper in Surrey, published by the nonprofit Polytechnic Ink Publishing Society. Its official editorial policy describes a freely distributed, year-round news and culture publication serving the KPU community. The current official site remained active through July 26, 2026, and its issue archive lists Volume 18, Issue 18 on July 21. Current music editorial includes a June 16 opinion article about a major hip-hop artist’s attempted return, celebrity accountability and music-industry partnerships. The official Contact page also hosts a current newsletter signup. The editorial policy says all published work must be commissioned: a contributor must receive an editor’s assignment or have a pitch accepted, and unapproved unsolicited work is not typically considered. Editors may occasionally accept unsolicited open letters or letters to the editor at their discretion, particularly for KPU-community dialogue. The same policy requires original material, Canadian Press and in-house style compliance, conflict disclosure and no artificial-intelligence-generated written or graphic work. The Contact page designates editor@runnermag.ca for writing and general inquiries. No fee or coverage guarantee is stated. MusicList therefore presents this only as a direct no-fee editor-mediated written-pitch and inquiry route, not as an open music-desk, artist-release or guaranteed-coverage service. Only that designated role inbox is retained. Named staff, every other staff or role inbox, phone numbers, street and postal details, and contact and newsletter form fields are excluded.
