The WholeNote is a Toronto print and online music publication with a current free magazine, music features, recording reviews, weekly listings, an editorial newsletter and a direct free Ontario event-listing form.
The WholeNote is a Toronto-based print and online music publication operated by WholeNote Media Inc. Its official history traces the project to a 1994 classical-music column and the first issue under The WholeNote name to 1996. The publication says it continues to distribute more than 30,000 free print copies of each issue through more than 800 Southern Ontario locations while maintaining its website, social channels and email newsletter. The current homepage displays a July and August 2026 issue and a newsletter described as generally sending four editorial and event-listing emails per month. Current music work includes a June 8 feature and interview about Kokoroko, Afrobeats, Black audiences and the Toronto Jazz Festival, while the recording archive contains multiple reviews published May 19. Its recurring coverage spans classical and new music, opera, music theatre, early music, jazz, folk, choral and world music, alongside concert reports, recording criticism, education and festivals. The current official listing guide offers a direct, free form for live or livestreamed musical performances and events throughout Ontario. Print listings are due no later than 15 days before publication of the issue covering the event; weekly online listings are due by 6 p.m. on the preceding Tuesday. Submissions follow a standardized event-information structure and remain subject to editing for The WholeNote’s listing style. This route is for event listings, not a promise of publication, editorial coverage or recording review. MusicList publishes only the current form. An older still-accessible listing page gives a different eighth-of-the-month deadline, so it is treated as superseded by the current navigation target and live form. Named staff, every inbox, phone and fax numbers, street and postal details, newsletter fields, submitter identity and contact fields, and submitted venue or event-contact values remain excluded.
