The artist

Aline Morales is a Brazilian Canadian singer, songwriter, percussionist, and bandleader based in Toronto. Born in Belo Horizonte, she trained in Brazilian traditional and contemporary music and performed with Nação Estrela Brilhante do Recife before moving to Canada in 2003. In Toronto she co-led Maracatu Nunca Antes, founded the large percussion ensemble Baque de Bamba, and became a member of KUNÉ, the Royal Conservatory of Music's cross-cultural ensemble. Her 2011 debut album Flores, Tambores e Amores brought national attention and a Juno Award nomination, while Toadas do Norte in 2021 expanded her mix of MPB, Tropicália, psychedelia, cumbia, and Afro-Latin forms. A featured recording released in 2024 and continued work with KUNÉ confirm current activity in Toronto's music community.
