About
The artist
Formed in Vancouver in 2011, Anciients combine progressive metal, sludge, psychedelia, and melodic hard rock. After the albums Heart of Oak and Voice of the Void, the band returned from an extended recording pause with Beyond the Reach of the Sun in 2024. The concept album paired intricate guitar writing and heavy grooves with themes of perseverance, loss, renewal, and spiritual discovery. The current lineup centres vocalist-guitarist Kenny Cook and drummer Mike Hannay with guitarist Brock MacInnes and bassist Rory O'Brien. Anciients have won two JUNO Awards for metal and hard music, including recognition for Beyond the Reach of the Sun, and won the 2025 Western Canadian Music Award for Metal & Hard Music Artist of the Year. Current Canadian and European touring confirms the band's active status.
