The artist

Ashleigh Ball is a Vancouver musician, singer, songwriter, flutist, and voice actor. She co-founded Hey Ocean! in 2004 and became known for the band's harmony-rich indie pop as its lead singer and flutist. During a band hiatus, Ball developed solo material with producer Ajay Bhattacharyya and released the Gold in You EP in 2017. Crazy reached the top 30 at Canadian Hot AC radio, and a stripped-back companion release followed in 2019. Her first solo full-length, Before All the Magic's Gone, arrived in 2021 after sessions in Winnipeg with Matt Schellenberg and Matt Peters. Ball continued with Searching in 2024, the album Our Slowest Season in 2025, and a series of singles. Center of the Universe, released in 2026 by Spiritual World, shifts the focus to flute. Ball recorded the two-part improvisation inside the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory on Vancouver Island, using the historic room's natural resonance as part of the performance. Alongside her solo work, she remains connected to Hey Ocean! and has a long career voicing animated characters.
