The artist
Begonia is the solo recording project of Winnipeg singer-songwriter Alexa Dirks. After performing with the Juno-winning group Chic Gamine, she introduced Begonia with Lady in Mind and developed an artful pop sound shaped by R&B, soul and theatrical vocal performances. Her albums Fear and Powder Blue earned Polaris Music Prize long-list recognition, while Powder Blue also received a Juno nomination. The 2025 album Fantasy Life continued that work with emotionally direct songwriting and expansive production, earning the 2026 Juno Award for Adult Alternative Album of the Year and a place on the 2026 Polaris short list.
