About

The artist

Christine Tassan et les Imposteures is a Montreal gypsy-jazz and swing quartet founded by guitarist, singer, and composer Christine Tassan in 2003. Created at a time when the style's instrumental spotlight was still largely occupied by men, the group established a distinctive Quebec voice through agile guitar and violin solos, vocal harmonies, comic staging, and arrangements that move between Django Reinhardt's swing tradition and French-language song. The ensemble has performed more than one thousand concerts across Canada, the United States, Europe, and China. Its recordings trace that development from De bon matin and Pas manouche, c'est louche through C'est l'heure de l'apéro, Entre Félix et Django, and Django Belles. Entre Félix et Django received the Prix Opus for jazz and world-music record of the year, and its concert production earned a subsequent Opus nomination. The seventh studio album, Sur la route, arrived in 2024 after the band's twentieth anniversary. Built largely from original pieces, it turns touring memories into music about the Rockies, Stanley Park, the Magdalen Islands, Labrador, China, France, and the return to Montreal. The current quartet pairs Tassan with violinist Martine Gaumond, guitarist Jeff Moseley, and bassist David Meunier-Roy. The official project site confirms continued activity with Ontario and United States dates in early 2026, followed by touring in Alberta and British Columbia.
