About

The artist

Crack Cloud is a Vancouver multimedia collective formed in 2015 around vocalist, drummer, producer, and visual artist Zach Choy. Its changing membership brings together musicians, filmmakers, designers, editors, and other artists, treating records, videos, graphics, and live performance as parts of one project. Two early EPs, Crack Cloud and Anchoring Point, were gathered on the 2018 self-titled release, where clipped guitars, tightly organized rhythms, and collective vocals established the group's art-punk language. Pain Olympics followed in 2020, expanding that sound through longer structures and denser arrangements. The 2022 album Tough Baby paired angular post-punk with more direct melodic writing, while Red Mile in 2024 introduced orchestral detail, broader dynamics, and a more panoramic approach. Crack Cloud received the 2021 Prism Prize Hi-Fidelity Award for its consistently inventive use of music video. Beyond the Red Mile extended the catalog in 2025. The collective then returned to a deliberately limited basement-recording setup for Peace And Purpose, written and recorded between November 2024 and November 2025 with one primary microphone and available instruments. Released by Meat Machine in March 2026, the fourteen-song album is supported by current European, North American, and Japanese touring. Official DSP, agency, award, and catalog sources continue to identify Crack Cloud as an active Canadian collective based in Vancouver.
