About

The artist

Dale Sorensen is a Canadian trombonist, educator, researcher, and artistic director based in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. His performing practice crosses classical, popular, orchestral, chamber, and musical-theatre settings, with a sustained focus on Canadian repertoire. Sorensen has premiered more than twenty-five solo trombone works and dozens of chamber pieces, and his 2015 album Harambee: Canadian Music for Trombone documents music by Canadian composers in a solo recording context. He performs with the PEI Symphony Orchestra and Charlottetown Festival Orchestra, appears as a guest with Symphony Nova Scotia, and is a member of the Maritime Brass Quintet. He also founded and directs the PEI contemporary-music ensemble eklektikos. Alongside performance, Sorensen chairs the Department of Music at the University of Prince Edward Island, teaches brass, directs the Wind Symphony, and maintains the Canadian Trombone Project, a research resource covering Canadian compositions and recordings for the instrument. His current official biography and performance calendar document orchestral concerts through 2026 and a thirty-third Charlottetown Festival season. The canonical Spotify identifier matches Apple Music and MusicBrainz records connected to Harambee and later ensemble recordings. Current official, university, and ensemble sources consistently place his professional base in Prince Edward Island.
