The artist

Dan Mangan is a Vancouver singer-songwriter, guitarist, composer, and arts-technology co-founder. Born in Smithers and raised primarily in Vancouver, he began releasing music in the early 2000s and built an audience through independent touring. Postcards and Daydreaming introduced his solo catalog, while Nice, Nice, Very Nice expanded his folk songwriting through larger arrangements and earned a Polaris Music Prize shortlist. Oh Fortune followed in 2011 and brought two Juno Awards in 2012. Later work with the Blacksmith ensemble pushed toward denser art-rock on Club Meds, before More or Less and Being Somewhere returned focus to intimate writing while retaining electronic and orchestral detail. Mangan has also composed for film and television, including music connected to the animated series Hilda.
