About
The artist
Dear Rouge is a Vancouver alternative-rock duo formed by Danielle and Drew McTaggart in 2012. Their early self-released EPs established a blend of synthpop, dance-rock, and guitar-driven indie music, and the single I Heard I Had became a Canadian alternative-radio breakthrough. The song won the SOCAN Songwriting Prize, while the duo's progress through British Columbia's Peak Performance Project helped build a national touring base. Their 2015 debut album Black to Gold paired Danielle's commanding vocals with Drew's production, synthesizers, guitars, and rhythm programming. The record led to the 2016 Juno Award for Breakthrough Group of the Year. PHASES followed in 2018 with songs including Live Through the Night and Chains, expanding the duo's arena-sized hooks and darker electronic textures. Spirit arrived in 2022 after a period of personal and creative reassessment, carrying the same danceable momentum into songs about identity, ambition, and resilience. Dear Rouge recorded its fourth album, Lonesome High, with producer Gus van Go and released it in September 2024. The album holds joy and melancholy together through direct songwriting, punk-edged guitars, electronic detail, and a live-minded sense of motion. Singles including Goon, Too Close to the Heat, Not Afraid to Dance, Cutting Teeth, and Garbage supported the record, with Goon reaching number one at Canadian alternative radio. The duo toured Lonesome High across Canada in 2025 and continued current Vancouver and Canadian activity into 2026. British Columbia's creative-industries publication identifies Dear Rouge as Vancouver-based in 2025, Apple Music lists Vancouver as the band's current origin and base, and current local radio materials independently present the same location and lineup. The canonical Spotify identifier matches the official site, Apple Music, MusicBrainz, and the Danielle and Drew McTaggart catalog.
