About
The artist
Destroyer is a Vancouver music project founded by singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Dan Bejar in the mid-1990s. What began as a home-recording outlet developed into a long-running band whose arrangements and personnel shift around Bejar's distinctive voice and densely associative writing. Early releases including We'll Build Them a Golden Bridge, City of Daughters, Thief, and Streethawk: A Seduction established an idiosyncratic indie-rock catalog. Your Blues expanded into programmed and orchestral textures in 2004, while Destroyer's Rubies in 2006 brought a full-band scale to Bejar's winding songs. Kaputt in 2011 introduced a polished blend of sophisti-pop, soft rock, jazz, and electronic production and became one of the project's defining records. Subsequent albums Poison Season, ken, Have We Met, and LABYRINTHITIS continued to recast the sound through orchestral rock, synth-pop, and new wave. Destroyer's fourteenth studio album, Dan's Boogie, arrived in March 2025 through Merge Records. Produced and mixed by longtime collaborator John Collins, the album brings Bejar together with a seasoned group of mostly Vancouver musicians and features Simone Schmidt and Joseph Shabason. Dan's Boogie was longlisted for the 2025 Polaris Music Prize, and its touring cycle concluded with a Vancouver performance in October 2025. Current artist-controlled Bandcamp records identify Destroyer with Vancouver, British Columbia, while current Canadian press describes Bejar and the performing ensemble as Vancouver artists. The canonical Spotify identifier matches Apple Music, Bandcamp, MusicBrainz, Merge Records, and the same Dan Bejar catalog. Exact English and French payloads were reviewed before approval, public contact is limited to the artist-controlled Bandcamp route, Spotify media remains live and provider-attributed, and the profile is sourced and unclaimed.
