About

The artist

Elisapie is an Inuk singer-songwriter, filmmaker, actor, producer, and activist born and raised in Salluit, Nunavik and based in Montréal. She first performed with relatives in the Inuit rock group Sugluk and worked at her community radio station before moving south to study communications and build a career in music and media. With the duo Taima, Elisapie won the 2005 JUNO Award for Aboriginal Recording of the Year. Her solo catalog began with There Will Be Stars in 2009 and continued through Travelling Love and The Ballad of the Runaway Girl, a 2018 album shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize. Her fourth solo album, Inuktitut, was released in 2023. The record translates and reinterprets rock and pop songs from the 1960s through the 1990s in her first language, connecting each selection to family, memory, territory, and the effects of colonialism. Inuktitut brought Elisapie a second Polaris shortlist, the 2024 JUNO for Contemporary Indigenous Artist of the Year, the 2025 JUNO for Adult Alternative Album of the Year, and multiple ADISQ awards. A remix EP followed in 2025, alongside continued Canadian and international touring. Elisapie's wider practice includes documentary filmmaking, acting, magazine work, and producing national Indigenous Peoples Day programming. Current Bonsound dates and 2025-2026 cultural programs confirm ongoing activity. The exact Spotify, Apple Music, MusicBrainz, official-site, Bonsound, and Bandcamp identities resolve to the same artist. Current sources consistently place her professional base in Montréal while identifying Salluit as her home territory and origin. English and French copy and translation provenance were reviewed, the public inquiry route points to her label's official contact section, Spotify media is provider-attributed, and no private information is included.
