About
The artist
Five Alarm Funk is an eight-piece instrumental funk, Afrobeat, and heavy rock fusion juggernaut based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Founded in 2003 and anchored by drummer and lead vocalist Tayo Branston, the band has spent over two decades crafting an exhilarating, genre-defying sound marked by thundering rhythm sections, intricate horn arrangements, and wildly theatrical live performances. The ensemble has received two JUNO Award nominations for Instrumental Album of the Year for Sweat (2018) and Big Smoke (2020), as well as multiple Western Canadian Music Awards. With a discography spanning eight studio albums—including Rock the Sky (2012), Abandon Earth (2014), and their 2025 release Force Majeure—Five Alarm Funk remains one of the most beloved live acts in Canada.
