About

The artist

Jeffery Straker is a singer-songwriter and pianist based in Regina, Saskatchewan. Raised on a grain farm near Punnichy, he studied classical piano before building a touring career around narrative folk and roots songs. His writing often follows prairie roads, small towns, family memory, and the tension between leaving home and returning to it. The exact Spotify identity contains 23 distinct primary album and single containers from March 2008 through December 2025: eight albums and 15 singles. Representative releases include Step Right Up, Vagabond, Dirt Road Confessional, Just Before Sunrise, Great Big Sky, and A Very Prairie Christmas. Vagabond was recorded on Glenn Gould's piano at CBC Toronto, while Great Big Sky returned to Saskatchewan imagery through songs about time, belonging, love, and the courage to live openly. Straker launched Great Big Sky with concerts in working grain elevators across Saskatchewan and later toured the recording in Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and the United States. The album earned him the 2025 Canadian Folk Music Award for Contemporary Singer of the Year. He also won the Vina del Mar International Song Festival competition while representing Canada in 2014 and received the Saskatchewan Music Award for Roots/Folk Artist of the Year in both 2020 and 2021. His collaborators include producers Steve Dawson and Russell Broom, songwriter Royal Wood, and co-writers Lynn Miles, Beverley Mahood, and Mac Shepherd. Current evidence confirms that Straker remains based in Regina and professionally active. SaskMusic lists Regina as his current location, a March 2025 Regina interview documents his return to the city, and his official site carries new releases, news, and Canadian performances through summer 2026. Professional inquiries route through the official contact page, which publishes separate booking regions and media channels. His public record uses an attributed live Spotify image with a monogram fallback.
