About

The artist

Lauren Spencer Smith is a pop singer-songwriter based in Nanaimo, British Columbia. Born in Portsmouth, England, she moved to Canada as a child and grew up on Vancouver Island, first in Port Alberni and later in Nanaimo. A March 2026 Georgia Straight profile identifies Spencer Smith as currently based in Nanaimo, corroborating a July 2025 Vancouver Island report that also described her as Nanaimo-based. She began posting vocal performances online while young and released her first principal Spotify single, Always Remember Us This Way, in May 2019. Her independently released Unplugged, Vol. 1 earned a 2020 JUNO nomination for Adult Contemporary Album of the Year, and her run on American Idol that year introduced her to a wider audience. The self-released Fingers Crossed became her international breakthrough in early 2022 after gaining momentum through short-form video. Flowers followed, and both songs became long-running anchors of her catalogue. Mirror, released in July 2023 through Three Name Productions, Island Records, and Republic Records, expanded those songs into a fifteen-track debut album about heartbreak, self-image, friendship, and early adulthood. The JUNO Awards nominated Mirror for Album of the Year and Pop Album of the Year in 2024, while Spencer Smith received an Artist of the Year nomination. Her second album, The Art of Being a Mess, arrived in June 2025. Universal Music Canada described the record as a set of songs about allowing anger, grief, love, peace, and confusion to coexist rather than resolving them into a single emotional lesson. A deluxe edition followed in February 2026 alongside Natural Disaster and a North American headline tour that returned to Vancouver in March. The exact Spotify identity contains 31 distinct principal album and single containers in the Canadian market from May 2019 through February 2026: four provider-classified albums and 27 provider-classified singles. Multi-track releases that Spotify places in the single grouping remain counted as provider-classified singles. Representative releases include The Art of Being a Mess (Deluxe), The Art of Being a Mess, Mirror, Fingers Crossed, and Mixed Emotions. The current official website connects the exact music and tour cycle, and MusicBrainz and Wikidata resolve the same artist to the exact Spotify identity. No direct contact details are republished. Spotify media is rendered live with provider attribution and a monogram fallback.
