About

The artist

Locarno is the Latin-roots project of Mexico City-born, Vancouver-based musician Tom Landa. The ensemble brings together Mexican folk traditions and Latin American dance rhythms with musicians from Vancouver's roots and world-music communities, moving through cumbia, son jarocho, salsa, funk, and acoustic folk textures. Its recordings include Una Más y Ya Nos Vamos, Luz y Sombra, and the 2025 release Colibrí Calíope. The latter extends the group's bilingual and cross-cultural songwriting while maintaining its dance-floor energy. Locarno has become a fixture of Vancouver festivals and touring stages, with a live lineup centred on Landa's voice and guitar alongside violin, percussion, brass, bass, and drums. The group received a 2025 Western Canadian Music Award nomination for Global Artist of the Year and remains active through current performances and artist-controlled releases.
