About

The artist

Nicola Miller is an experimental saxophone player, flutist and composer based on Nova Scotia's South Shore. Her music keeps one foot in the lyrical and mysterious while reaching toward avant-garde improvisation, and she has performed at the Halifax, Guelph and Open Waters jazz festivals as well as in Berlin. Miller studied jazz composition and arranging at the Jazz Institute Berlin and has worked with musicians including Frank Gratkowski, Uri Caine, India Gailey, Tim Crofts and Gabriella Ciurcovich. Her debut recording as a leader, Living Things, was released in 2024, and her 2025 Paul Cram Creation Award and 2026 performance activity with Symphony Nova Scotia and Halifax's new-music community reflect an active creative practice.
