The artist
Peggy Lee & Cole Schmidt is a collaborative project formed in 2019 by cellist-composer Peggy Lee and guitarist-composer Cole Schmidt. Rooted in Vancouver's creative-music community, the partnership develops compositional frameworks that leave space for improvising guests. Their album Forever Stories of: Moving Parties was released in 2024 and draws together jazz, experimental rock, classical colour, noise, and freely improvised exchange. The recording includes musicians working across Vancouver and several international cities, reflecting the project's flexible, collaborative design. Although Lee now spends part of each year in Melbourne, the duo and its recordings retain a documented Vancouver base, with Schmidt based in the city and core sessions recorded there. The project received a 2025 Western Canadian Music Award nomination for Jazz Artist of the Year.
