About

The artist

Sultans of String is a Toronto-based Canadian ensemble led by violinist and producer Chris McKhool, with a rotating collaborative lineup that has included guitarist Kevin Laliberté, bassist Drew Birston, percussionist Rosendo Chendy Leon, and international guest artists. Since the 2007 debut Luna, the group has built a catalog around Celtic, flamenco, Arabic, Cuban, South Asian, and Django-jazz traditions. Its current official site documents the albums Refuge, Sanctuary, and Walking Through the Fire, ongoing 2026 shows, and a feature-film project responding to Indigenous and refugee stories. The group has been nominated for three JUNO Awards, won Canadian Folk Music Awards, and performed with major Canadian symphony orchestras.
