The artist

Vancouver Chamber Choir is a professional vocal ensemble founded in Vancouver by Jon Washburn in 1971. Artistic Director Kari Turunen has led the choir since 2019, continuing a program that spans historical repertoire, contemporary music, Canadian commissions, recordings, touring, and education. The organization documents 36 recordings, hundreds of commissioned and premiered works, and more than four thousand performances of music by Canadian composers. Its current 56th season and 2026–27 composer-in-residence program confirm ongoing activity in Vancouver. The choir’s awards include Chorus America’s Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence, and its education work includes a conductor symposium, composer workshops, singer development, and school programs.
