The Tyee is an independent nonprofit Vancouver online news magazine with current British Columbia music reporting, a biweekly podcast, free newsletters and a direct no-fee editorial route for relevant story pitches, tips and press releases.

The Tyee is an independent, reader-funded online news magazine operated by the nonprofit Tyee Independent Media Society. Its first-party About page says it was founded in 2003, moved to a nonprofit structure in 2022, became a Registered Journalism Organization in 2025 and is based in Vancouver with a British Columbia-centred perspective. It publishes public-interest news, analysis, solutions, opinion and culture without a paywall. A substantive July 10, 2026 feature on Vancouver underground music spaces and their local scene establishes current music journalism; a February 20, 2026 feature on a northern British Columbia independent record label provides additional current music evidence. The Tyee launched its current podcast on May 29, 2026 with new conversations every other Friday, and its current FAQ documents five free daily or weekly newsletters, including the arts-and-culture Weekender. The submissions guide accepts story pitches and designates the organization editorial inbox for story tips, press releases, general coverage and pitches when the best editor is unclear. A pitch should provide a proposed headline or concise angle, scenes and quotations when appropriate, a fresh audience-relevant hook, planned sources, the intended section and the writer’s suitability. The guide says pitch volume exceeds assignment capacity and that no reply within seven business days means the proposal is unlikely to proceed. No submission fee is displayed, and consideration never guarantees a response, assignment, publication or coverage. MusicList publishes only the organization editorial inbox. Named staff and their addresses, the separate podcast, newsletter, advertising and supporter routes, phone numbers, the postal address, private correspondence and submitted materials remain excluded.
