The Ubyssey

The Ubyssey is UBC’s independent Vancouver student newspaper, with current music and culture reporting and a direct free form for story pitches and tips.

The Ubyssey is the independent, non-profit public-service student newspaper covering the University of British Columbia community in Vancouver. Its official About page says it is written and edited by students, publishes print issues twice a week during the school year and operates an online publication. Current first-party music activity includes a June 29, 2026 concert review at UBC’s Chan Centre, a June 9 feature on the rebuilding year of Vancouver’s independent Music Waste festival and a March 24 profile about a Vancouver music interviewer’s history with campus radio. The current music topic page also includes reporting on student composers and musicians, UBC School of Music access, Indigenous song and dance, local bands, festivals and live performance. UBC’s current communications guidance independently identifies The Ubyssey as its student newspaper, notes that editorial control belongs to the publication and describes stories as requiring newsworthiness, currency and student relevance. The official Contact page explicitly invites pitches or tips through a linked form owned by The Ubyssey Publications Society. The form asks whether the submission is a story pitch or tip, the submitter’s name, the best way to get in touch and an explanation of the pitch or tip. No submission fee or reply, assignment, publication, music review, interview, event coverage or other outcome guarantee is stated. MusicList publishes only the pitch/tip form and does not represent it as blanket acceptance of artist releases, tracks or press releases. Named staff and bylines, all email addresses, telephone and postal details, anonymous-source tools, letters, advice, advertising, newsletter and social routes, every private form value, contact detail, pitch, tip, attachment, response and correspondence remain excluded.
