The Story of the Release
Freudian is the seminal debut studio album by Canadian singer and songwriter Daniel Caesar (Ashton Simmonds). Independently released via Golden Child Recordings, the album became a global R&B phenomenon, earning two Grammy nominations and winning the 2018 Juno Award for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year. Anchored by timeless gospel chords, pristine live instrumentation, and deeply vulnerable examinations of romantic devotion, Freudian features collaborative appearances from Kali Uchis, H.E.R., Syd, and Charlotte Day Wilson. Produced primarily in Toronto by Matthew Burnett and Jordan Evans, Freudian certified multi-platinum and redefined modern Canadian soul music.
