The Story of the Release
The Neon Skyline is a narrative concept album by Saskatchewan singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Andy Shauf, shortlisted for the 2020 Polaris Music Prize. Set across a single evening at a neighborhood bar as the narrator learns his ex-partner has returned to town, the album was written, performed, arranged, and produced entirely by Shauf in Toronto, featuring intricate clarinet counterpoints and conversational folk-pop storytelling.
Canadian Press & Critical Reception
"Andy Shauf crafts a cozy, witty narrative suite that turns an awkward night at a dive bar into a rich study in human tenderness and regret."
