The artist
Kayo Guevarra, born Filbert Salton in Saint Lucia, is a Halifax-based artist whose sound joins hip-hop, R&B and reggae. He moved to Halifax to study at Saint Mary’s University, built a place in the city’s hip-hop community, and later signed a production deal with Classified’s Half Life Records that led to a licensing deal with EMI Music Canada. His independent catalogue includes the Nowhere EP and the 2024 album EXTENDED TRIP, and his work has earned two 2025 Music Nova Scotia Awards for DJ of the Year and Hip Hop/Rap Recording of the Year.
