Provenance & Context

The Story of the Release

Pilgrimage is the collaborative album by Canadian roots songwriter Leeroy Stagger and East Coast artist Joel Plaskett, released on Cordova Bay Records. Bypassing digital studio techniques, Stagger and Plaskett captured the nine songs directly to 1/4-inch tape on a vintage 1970s Tascam 388 8-track analog deck. The resulting sound is warm, immediate, and intentionally raw, exploring themes of ancestry, migration, family, and Stagger's connections to Highland bardic traditions.

"Pilgrimage is an analog triumph and a masterclass in Canadiana storytelling, capturing Stagger and Plaskett at their most instinctual and authentic."

The Spill Magazine2026-06
"Recorded on vintage 8-track tape, Pilgrimage strip-mines modern pretense to reveal the raw, beating heart of classic folk songwriting."
